there can be only one
My favorite thing to hear at work is people who come in and are like “how… does this work? How do I adopt a cat??” Bc their last cat (maybe all their cats! Maybe they had a whole list) just Chose them.
Like the people who have never been cat people but a cat showed up in their life and decided to stay so they were like “ok. Guess I have this cat. I am responsible for this small furry monster”.
I love hearing this. Everything from “my daughter found this kitten in a dumpster but couldn’t keep it Bc she already had three so suddenly I had my first cat at age 54” to “I fed this cat for two years before it let me pet him. One winter it got real cold so I caught him and bright him inside and by the time it got warm he’d gotten used to it. Now he sleeps on my head. ”
Especially the people who care for ferals! They are not cuddly kitties! They are cautious and slow to trust and Maybe will warm up to The Human Who Brings Food but maybe not even then! These cats think humans are scary and mean (and probably we have been, to them) but these people show up every day to feed the cats and they bring them in to be spayed and they come by to borrow a trap when one of the cats starts limping so it can be brought in to the vet.
Just….sometimes people are good.
